Before you begin

This test is designed to assess the level of written English competency for prospective onshore students wishing to attend   courses at Brighton College.

This test is divided into three sections as explained below:

Section One: Grammer

45 multiple choice questions
35 Minutes
Acceptable Criteria: Students must answer a minimum of 60% of the questions correctly

Section Two: Reading

2 reading tasks
25 Minutes
Acceptable Criteria: Students must answer a minimum of 60% of the questions correctly

Section Three: Writing

1 writing task – the applicant must answer one question from the four proposed
30 Minutes
Acceptable Criteria: Candidates must provide a response that meets the following criteria.

Task acheivementThe candidate answers the question using a minimum of 250 words and presents ideas and arguments in a clearly articulated manner.
Coherence and CohesionThe response is logically organised with cohesion between paragraphs making the relationships between and within sentences clear with minimal faulty connectives.
Lexical resource (Vocabulary)The candidate uses a range of vocabulary that is appropriate to convey the intended meaning with only a few errors.
Grammatical range and accuracyThe candidate uses a good range of grammatical structures with only minimal errors.
